Spook-tacular Halloween Trifle

This fang-tastic take on a traditional trifle makes a colourful centrepiece for a family get together or party at Halloween. With no baking involved, it’s easy to create and fun to decorate!

You will need:

Edibles
Chocolate Swiss roll
Blackcurrant Jelly
Tin of custard
Whipping cream
Wilton leaf green paste food colouring
Wilton orange paste food colouring
Pack of 12 icing eye sugarettes
Cake Decor mix of 4 spooky sprinkles

Equipment
Wilton pack of 12 disposable icing bags
Wilton 8B large piping tube

.Layer A Glass Bowl With Chocolate Sponge

We used a shop bought chocolate Swiss roll for ease and to save time. Simply cut it into one inch slices and layer across the bottom of a glass dessert bowl.

Add A Layer Of Blackcurrant Jelly

Make up a pack of blackcurrant jelly and pour over the chocolate sponge – one pack should just about cover the sponge. Place in the fridge for at least an hour, or until the jelly has set.

Layer With Green Custard

Take a standard tin of ready-made custard, pour into a bowl and colour with Wilton leaf green food colouring. Because this colouring is a paste, stir well so that the green is evenly dispersed throughout the custard, then spoon over the jelly. Place back into the fridge for an hour to slightly set.

Whip Up Some Orange Cream

Whip up some cream until it is firm enough to hold its shape, then colour with some Wilton orange food colouring. Cut the end off a 12” disposable piping bag, drop in a Wilton 8B tube, fill with the cream, and pipe a layer of stars over the custard

Handy Tip
To pipe stars, hold the bag vertically, touch down very gently on the custard, then start applying pressure to pipe the star. Once piped, stop applying all pressure before pulling away.

Scatter With A Spooky Mix Of Sprinkles

To decorate, we used the Cake Decor spooky mix of sprinkles as this handy pot contains four different mixes. Start with a scattering of the black and orange mini pearls, then follow with the white ghosts, black and purple witches’ hats and finish with the bats and pumpkins.

Decorate With Some Googly Eyes

To finish this spectacular Halloween trifle, decorate with a pack of 12 icing eye sugarettes, propping them up at an angle over the piped cream so that the googly eyes really stand out!

Have fun creating this fang-tastic treat and don’t forget, we love seeing what you have all been up to, so please share your creations with us on social media.
